What is Melasma?
Melasma, a dark, diffuse and symmetrical dyschromia, which is usually located on the cheeks and forehead area, is one of the spots that have more incidence among the female population. Actually, it is a condition with no known exact cause, which has a hormonal background and worsens with ultraviolet radiation. It is not an alteration of the hormones proper, but an increased sensitization against the sun that these hormones produce, in certain areas of the face.
Also called chloasma or “ cloth ” at the colloquial level, it has a higher incidence among young women and especially, among those who take or have taken contraceptives, among those who undergo fertility treatments or have pregnancies, those who have a family history, and the regulars to tanning beds. Only idiopathic melasma, without a known cause, does not respond to any of these antecedents.
Mesotherapy for skin whitening is the great novelty against stains, especially against the most recalcitrant and difficult cases of melasma, which can be treated with this new generation asset, as many times as recurrences and with identical efficacy.
